Poker Stars Sunday Tournaments – Results from 8.12.07

The High Stakes Showdown at PokerStars needs to undergo a name change. Instead, it should be called Imper1um's Domain. Sorel Mizzi, aka Imper1um, plays under the moniker zangbezan24 at PokerStars. Each week, he pays his $10,000 – chump change for him, obviously – to play in the High Stakes Showdown, which is less than two months old. On Sunday, he plays the event. This weekend was no exception, and, in what is quickly becoming the standard for the High Stakes Showdown, he won the event for a third time.

Yes, Sorel Mizzi won the High Stakes Showdown again, earning another $50,000. We bet he's already signed up for next week's event. The question is who will sign up to play against him?

Of course, the High Stakes Showdown isn't the only game in Poker Stars' town on Sunday. The Sunday Warm Up and Sunday Hundred Grand were full of high-flying action, including some wheeling and dealing.

Here are the results from the Sunday Warm-Up:

1) ael1979 - $65,569.12 2) BOKPOWER - $43,718.40 3) puyablaze - $29,101.44 4) NemoStars22 - $23,404.80 5) mymandi1 - $18,547.20 6) PezPoisson - $14,087.04 7) Mighty_L - $10,112.64 8) vic_xcite - $6,359.04 9) bid7777 - $3,709.44

and the Sunday Hundred Grand:

We all know by now that the biggest event on Sunday happens to be the Poker Stars' Sunday Million. Well, it's at least the event with the biggest prize pool. This weekend, Team Poker Stars member, Humberto Brenes, got in on the action. The Costa Rican 'shark' finished in fifteenth place, earning $6,000. He was just one of 6,543 players in the tournament that featured a total prize pool of $1,308,600.

As the final table got underway, flyndra held the top spot with 11.25 chips. However, it was Roberta114 who got the party started by knocking out not one, but two opponents on the same hand with her pocket rockets. Adios, barbar and bobbybagpipe. We hardly knew ye. The double KO propelled Roberta to the top of the chip heap with 16 million big ones.

Next to go was PokerSkill. IG0tDibs forced him all-in after the turn. PokerSkill called and turned up his A,7. He made top pair on the flop. Unfortunately, Dibs, with big slick in the pocket, made two pair. Poker's skill earned him over $21,000, which isn't too shabby.

EirikS and downosaur tangoed. Of course, it was all over for Eirik once downosaur completed a full house. flyndra, the former chip leader, had fallen from first to worst by this point. He pushed all-in preflop from the small blind with a Kh,5h. Roberta114 called and flipped over pocket fives. The board came down Ac,Jc,9c,6s,9d, missing flyndra completely, leaving just four players remaining.

At this point, Dibs, down, Roberta and rooster talked chop, but couldn't agree on the terms. When play started up again, roosterfish, the short stack, sang his swan song. downosaur took down a few nice pots, however, it was IG0TDibs who'd snag the biggest pot of the tourney, putting him in prime position to win the whole she-bang.

downosaur was Dibs' only real threat at this point. The two made quick work of Roberta, finally eliminating her in third place. As heads-up play began, the stacks were almost even. Dibs had the slight lead with 34.8 mil to downosaur's 30.7 mil. Oddly enough, the match ended just a minute later when both players went all-in after flopping two pair. Dibs' had the higher second-pair and that's all he needed to win.

These are the results, y'all:

1) IG0tDibs - $188,176.68 2) downosaur - $98,014.14 3) Roberta114 - $70,533.54 4) roosterfish - $54,961.20 5) flyndra - $42,006.06 6) EirikS - $30,097.80 7) PokerSkill - $21,591.90 8) bobbybagpipe - $13,086.00 9) barbar31 - $8,113.32
