Poker Stars Sunday Million - Tournament Results (12.09.06)

The PokerStars Sunday Million saw 6,680 entrants. The prize pool was over 1.3 million. 975 lucky players cashed with $135,942 going to the first-place finisher. When the final table began, mrrain, the eventual winner, held the chip lead with 14 mil. Capper77 was short-stacked with 3.2 mil. Just a few minutes into the final table, Capper77 went all-in with his Ad, 6s. His opponent, wds2004, held a dominating position with an Ah, Qh. The flop brought a queen for wds2004 and Capper77 didn't improve. He was sent to the rails in ninth place with just under 11k to show for his efforts.

TAA212 watched as his stack got smaller and smaller. The short-stack raised all his chip preflop against gregghmsr who turned over his As, Js after calling TAA212. TAA212 was in trouble with his Kc, Qd. The flop brought a queen for TAA212 and a jack for gregghmsr. TAA212 thought he was gonna double up for sure until the river spiked an Ace and tossed him out of the competition in 8th place.

The next few eliminations seemed to carry the same pattern. Short-stack goes all-in. Short stack loses. Norberg, Kiaser and OddB all went out in this way bringing the event to just four remaining players. At this point, mrrain, Tulkaz, wds2004 and gregghmsr talked chop. They agreed to a four-way split based on chip stacks - mrrain and wds2004 were in top positions at the time - with $30k extra going to the eventual winner.

Soon after they ironed out the details of the deal, wds2004 sent gregghmsr packing. gregghmsr continued the trend of the day and went all-in preflop. He had pocket fives against wds2004's As, 5d. The board was unkind to gregghmsr by bringing two pair, Kings and Queens. This negated gregg's pocket fives and gave wds2004 the win with the higher case card, an Ace. gregghmsr received almost $70k for his fourth-place finish.

wds2004 led the competition at this point with 27.6 mil in chips compared to mrrain with 26.2 mil chips and Tulkaz, the short stack with 13 mil. mrrain and Tulkaz began chipping way at wds2004's lead until he held a mere 8.2 mil in chips. wds2004 raised to 1.8 mil preflop. Since the big blind was already 600k, Tulkaz called. The flop held three spades - and bottom pair for Tulkaz. However, it was wds2004 who went all-in with just an A, 3. A three came on the turn to give wds2004 a few more outs, but the river brought a nine to give Tulkaz two pair, nines and sevens.

Heads-up between mrrain and Tulkaz was quick. It only lasted three hands. Tulkaz won the first contest and a windfall of 15 mil. mrrain was the victor of the second and third pots, however. The final hand saw mrrain with a J, 9 and Tulkaz with A J, 3. The flop was A, J, 9, two of which were clubs. Tulkaz would need runner-runner to win. A five on the turn saw Tulkaz drawing dead and a ten on the river put this competition into the books.

Here are the results of Sunday's event. (Note: Results reflect a four-way deal.):
