FTOPS II Main Event Results

The Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) completed its fall cycle on Sunday, November 19th with a fantastic Main Event. Almost 2,500 people entered the tournament, vying for the guaranteed $1 million dollar prize pool. 351 players cashed. The winner, Spiked, received $224,634.53 for his Herculean effort.

Spiked didn't enter the final table as the clear favorite. In fact, he had an average-sized stack. Spiked employed a 'wait and see' strategy throughout the early and middle stages of the tournament, the same kind that worked so well for Nenad Medic at the recent World Poker Finals. He let the more aggressive players knock out the competition, choosing his moves with the clear and careful precision that is befitting a champ.

CaseytheKid, who was named the best all-around player at the inaugural FTOPS, was the first person out of the final table when his A-7 failed to improve over soxfan1985's pocket nines. THE__D__RY followed Caseythekid shortly afterwards when his A-7 met Spiked's pocket kings. Just to add salt to THE__D__RY's wounds, his opponent lived up to his name and "spiked" a set.

inter27 was the next to go. He was short-stacked. His last stand was thrown into the muck. soxfan1985 took him down with an Ace-high. On the very next hand, luffiii left the table. His q-9 didn't catch a thing against bballer88's K-7.

Spiked took the opportunity of short-handed play and the fact that he raked in quite a few chips from an earlier knockout to begin his run for the title. He built up a commanding lead. At one point, he tried to steal the blind from bballer88 with a K-6. bballer88 made a good call with his A-4. However, a six on the river gave Spiked bballer88's chips. Adios, bbballer88.

With four players left, the blinds made it up to 40k/80k with 10k antes. Dewey123333 was on the ropes with $565,000. dmkai3 knocked him out with just a king-high. Then Spiked made short work of soxfan1985 who tried an all-in bluff on the river with his A-9. The board was scary. It read 7-6-6-8-4. Unfortunately for soxfan1985, Spiked had two pairs, eights and sixes.

During heads-up play, Spiked stuck to dmkai3 like glue. He didn't let up and chipped away at dmkai3's much smaller stack. With his chip count around 1 million, dmkai3 went all in with q-3. Spiked called with A-10. The board paired Spiked's ten, which gave him the FTOPS II Main Event win.
