David Singer Stomps whitelime to Take Full Tilt Heads Up Championship

David Singer turned pro in 1996. Since then, he's gone on to sit at the WSOP Main Event final table and the World Poker Tour (Caribbean Adventure – third edition) and make back-to-back sixth place finishes in the WSOP HORSE championship (2006 & 2007). Oh yeah – he also took the top spot at the Mirage Heads-Up Poker Showdown.

He had a disappointing finish at the 2008 NBC National Heads-Up Championship. He was ousted in the first round. Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, who is a Team Full Tilt member just like Singer, earned the championship in that event. Ferguson was also tapped to head-up the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship at Full Tilt Poker, which began on Saturday May 24th, 2008.

Said to be the richest Heads-Up competition in the world – with a $25,000 buy-in – the Full Tilt event drew in a bunch of pros such as Ferguson, Singer, Andy Bloch, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, David Benyamine and Erik Seidel. Also rumored to be in attendance was one Patrik Antonius, supposedly under the moniker “FinddaGrind.”

Only eight places were paid. After three rounds of heads-up matches that most railbirds can only dream about, the final eight was set. Bloch, who was runner-up to Ferguson at the 2008 NBC Heads-Up Championship, Dani Stern (Ansky451), Emil Patel (whitelime), mischiefofmagic, mastrblastr, FinddaGrind, Brian Hastings and David Singer were all still in the hunt. Singer then took on Brian Hastings and whitelime faced off against former MIT Blackjack specialist Bloch.

In the end, Patel/whitelime and Singer battled for the top prize of $560,000. Singer emerged victorious, laying claim to the title and the cash while Patel received $320,000 for his efforts.

Full Tilt Poker is gearing up for the Mini Series of Poker, an online homage (with seriously reduced buy-ins) to the WSOP. It begins on May 30, 2008. Click here for more details including a full schedule of events.
