The Italian Pirate Takes the Booty in Event #24 at the 2008 World Series of Poker
Max Pescatori won his first World Series of Poker two years ago. His win coincided with Italy's World Cup victory, sending the proud Italian into hyperdrive. For his second bracelet, Pescatori, aka The Italian Pirate, would have to be content with a small area of the Amazon Room at The Rio. Entering the final table in the middle of the pack, the talented professional chipped away at five-time bracelet winner Allen Cunningham's lead in the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha Event.
Pescatori eventually dispatched Cunningham in fourth position and made it to heads-up play against a young gun by the name of Kyle Kloeckner. Kloeckner, a WSOP rookie and resident of St. Louis, MO, had a slight chip advantage over Pescatori as heads-up play began. However, it didn't take long for the experienced pro to claim the top spot.
These are the final results:
1) Max Pescatori - $246,471 2) Kyle Kloeckner - $152,410 3) Greg Hurst - $94,599 4) Allen Cunningham - $76,205 5) Kyle Hegeman - $62,015 6) Jonathan Depa - $48,876 7) Lennart Holtkamp - $38,365 8) Minh Ly - $30,482 9) John-Paul Kelly - $22,599
