Sebastian Ruthenberg Wins $5,000 Stud Hi-Lo Event at the 2008 World Series of Poker
Sebastian Ruthenberg is a 24 year old professional poker player hailing from Germany. In the 2007 EPT Baden Classic Main Event, he finished in tenth position. As he entered the final table of the $5,000 buy-in Stud Hi/Lo World Championship at the 2008 World Series of Poker, the young man faced some stiff competition from the likes of Annie Duke, Marcel Luske and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson.
Duke, who came to the WSOP late this year due to a fractured pelvis, has a WSOP bracelet in Omaha Hi/Lo (2004). She also took down the Tournament of Champions that same year, defeating Phil Hellmuth in heads-up play. The lovely mom of four busted out in fifth place, eliminated by Ferguson. She added more than $73,000 to her WSOP lifetime total.
The Flying Dutchman, Luske, went all-in a few times before finally succumbing in fourth place. The sharp-dressed Dutchman had his shades and a suit. Unfortunately, his fashion sense wasn't enough to keep him in the event as Bob Lauria, an amateur from West Haven, CT, sent him to the rail with just a pair of sevens.
Ferguson, a former WSOP Main Event champion (2000), made it all the way to heads-up play against Ruthenberg. He took out Bob Lauria in third place and had a nice stack of chips. Ferguson was hoping for his sixth career bracelet, but couldn't put the big German away. After winning a massive pot with aces up, Ruthenberg had a commanding lead and took the match on the very next hand.
Here are the final results:
1) Sebastian Ruthenberg - $328,762 2) Chris Ferguson - $202,405 3) Bob Lauria - $125,736 4) Marcel Luske - $95,069 5) Annie Duke- $73,602 6) Alessio Isaia - $58,268 7) Steve Sung - $46,001 8) Bob Beveridge - $36,801
