Earlier this week, Poker Stars announced that it was canceling the Latin American Poker Tour event in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Funds were redistributed to the remaining 89 players by chip count with a base of $5,000 each for every remaining entrant.
However, players really wanted to play this tournament down to the end and see how the LAPT Nuevo Vallarta champion would be. As a result, the powers that be on the LAPT have come up with a pretty novel solution. They will be holding a freeroll online at Poker Stars for the final 89. Those players will fight it out to the final table.
The nine players who make it to that final table will then be flown to Viña del Mar, Chile for the Latin America Poker Tour event when it heads to South America from January 20 – 22, 2009. A champion will be crowned and a TV crew will be there to tape the festivities.
PokerStars has put up an additional $50,000 in the prize pool.
