JC Tran Wins $5k Event at Five-Diamond World Poker Classic

Justin Cuong (JC) Tran is playing some of the best poker in his life right now. The poker professional, who took down the Main Event at the 2006 World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) at PokerStars , has made the final table of the last two events at the WPT's Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He took down the eighth spot and about $27,000 earlier this week in Event #11, a $5,000 buy-in NLHE contest. Tran, who has earned nearly six million dollars in tournaments so far in his career, cashed numerous times in WPT and WSOP tourneys. This summer, Tran made bank in no less than four WSOP events including the Main Event. After finishing strong in Event #11, Tran didn't sit back and wait for the Main Event to begin. Instead, he hit the felt right away, putting up the 5k to play in Event #12. Tran not only made the final table in this event – he won the whole she-bang, taking down over $500,000 and …besting a final table that included David Williams, Justin Buonomo and Mark Teltscher. Tran won the day after defeating Salvatore “Sully” Erna, lead singer of Godsmack and a rising poker talent who cashed in the last two WSOP Main Events, in a fantastic heads-up battle. This win puts Tran in second position in the CardPlayer Player of the Year race, only 814 points behind David “The Dragon” Pham. Here are the final results from Event #12 at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic: 1) JC Tran - $523,075 2) Salvatore “Sully” Erna - $307,325 3) Mark Teltscher - $153,660 4) David Williams - $87,810 5) Jerry Fahim - $65,885 6) Marc DeWeerd - $51,220 7) Andrew Robl - $36,585 8) Shane Schleger - $29,270 9) Justin Bonomo - $23,415
