European Poker Tour – Polish Open Players Deal with Difficult Day Ones

On Day 1A, the EPT Polish Open began in Warsaw, Poland. 190 players shuffled up and dealt with the action at the Hyatt Regency Casino in the Polish capital. Julian Thew, winner of the EPT Baden event, was in attendance along with PokerStars' own Katja Thater and Dario Minieri. Thew had a rough time of it early, but played his hands well and moved up the ranks. Thater and Minieri didn't get so lucky. Both were eliminated along with Polish pop star Michal Wisniewski. 79 players remained when all was said and done. Each would move on to Day 2. Robert Flink had the chip lead with more than 113,000 of the big ones in his stack.

Nearly 170 players took to the felt for Day 1B of the EPT Polish Open. Greg Raymer joined Team PokerStars player Luca Pagano in the event. European icons such as Thor Hansen, Dave “El Blondie” Colclough and Thomas Wahlroos were also ready to go. Raymer was crippled early on and hit the rail in Level 3. Pagano and Colclough joined him soon afterwards. Sorel Mizzi lost the bulk of his chips with an A,Q in the hole. He was never able to recover and bid the competition adieu on Day 1B too.

Andy Black had a good day. The Irishman was sitting near the top of the chip heap at the end of the day. Mel Judah and Liz Lieu survived to play on Day 2. They were among the 61 to do so.
