ANZPT Sydney – Paren Anzoomanian Wins

Paren Anzoomanian wins the first-ever ANZPT Sydney Tournament.

The first-ever Poker Stars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour stop in Sydney, Australia saw 493 players enter the $2,000 + $200 buy-in event at the Star City Casino. Together, they generated a prize pool worth $986,000.

The top 45 players earned some bank in the tournament. On the final day, 26 players battled for the top prize of $246,500. Four hours later, only nine remained with the most well-known among them being Billy “The Croc” Argyros.

Argyros finished in sixth place when he kings got cracked. He earned $44.370 for his efforts.

Lisa Walsh, the only lady at the table, made it to heads-up play against Paren Arzoomanian. She held 4.1 million chips to Arzoomanian's 5.6 million. For a brief period, Ms. Walsh took the chip lead. However, she fell back behind and, on the final hand found herself up against with a Kh,9c. Arzoomanian held an Ac,5d. The board came down Js,8s,8d,5c,Ad and Arzoomanian became the ANZPT's first Sydney champion.

The next ANZPT tournament takes place at Melbourne's Crown Casino on May 25 – 27, 2009.
