2008 World Series of Poker Main Event – Outhred In on Top of Chip Heap

2,378 players took to the felt to begin Day 2B. Only 842 lasted to make it to Day 3. Now that's what we call a slaughterhouse. Defending World Champion Jerry Yang lost his tournament life during this tough day of play as did a slew of notable players such as Joe Hachem, Barbara Enright, Clonie Gowen, Shannon Elizabeth, Isabelle Mercier, Sorel Mizzi, recent bracelet winner David Daneshgar and Carlos Mortensen.

Mortensen's elimination was especially painful. The flop came down Q , 10 , 2 . The Matador put all his chips in the middle with a set of ducks. Unfortunately his opponent, Grant Hillman, held three ladies. The turn and the river did not yield the case deuce and the Spaniard was reduced to the rail, shaking his head in disbelief.

Alex Outhred, who often helps players improve their game with the World Series of Poker Academy seminars, held a whole lot of chips. He had 486,600, about 50k behind the chip leader, Peter Biebel. Also remaining in the hunt for the 2008 WSOP title were Victor Ramdin, Nenad Medic, Jim McManus, Alexander Kostritsyn, Jean-Robert Bellande, Brandon Cantu, Evelyn Ng, Chip Jett and Phil Hellmuth.
