Canadian Poker Tournament Walks the Line
Well…it had to happen eventually. Poker has become so legitimized that it will soon be marketed directly at kids age ten and up; at least, that is what Nevada North Entertainment is planning. The Vancouver company is setting up a workshop-slash-poker tournament imaginatively titled Kids Poker Tour. Needless to say, there has been some opposition.
BC Solicitor General John Les is up in arms over the issue, threatening to shut them down post haste if they break the tiniest of laws. A brochure from Nevada North highlights the positive side to teaching kids poker (math skills, sportsmanship, communication, easy money over hard work…okay, I added that last one) but BSCG Les says they can get those positive lessons in plenty of other ways that don't involve gambling.
The winners of the Texas Hold'em workshop event (being held in June for those of you dying to get your young ones into a poker tournament) will receive education subsidies and—naturally— free entry into future events.
